Jesus warned his disciples three times. He told them exactly what was about to happen and when. When they entered Jerusalem with shouts of praise and cheers, they probably thought that Jesus was simply mistaken. Here is what my Lord told those who were following that day, from the Gospel of Matthew:
Now Jesus was going up to Jerusalem. On the way, he took the Twelve aside and said to them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!”
We are behaving as if Jesus was mistaken. We have failed to follow God's Word and we are in a world of messy hurt. It isn't difficult to understand the doubts of today. Those with Jesus Christ, as he entered the city, failed to realize just what He was about to do for all mankind. We, like lost lambs, have gone astray and only a miracle of repentance and surrender will save us.
Here, as we approach the Easter Morning, there is more to it than attending worship after a long absence. It is more than an egg hunt. It is Victory that is only found in Jesus' victory over the grave! It is the substance of eternal life itsself and is found only like this:
If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and forgive their sin and heal their land!"
That's what this Sunday is all about!
And that's what I get from My Box of Chocolates right here in my little corner studio under the shadow of Kyle Field.
