That's 72 years ago when my graduating class held Commencement on Tiger Field with a whopping total of 82 Seniors. Our class was the first to go twelve years. Only three classmates were from East Ward. All the others were either from West Ward or had moved to Mt. Pleasant while in public school. Not many are still around, but I still hear from Bettye White and she fills me in.
I was somewhat at a disadvantage there since my parents were friends with my teachers, many of whiom went to school with them.
Bettye and I had lost touch until just this week and it's good to reconnect. Sadly, she informed me of the death of an Aunt and poor health of many others.
"Hail to thee our Alma Mater"!
And that's what I get from My Box of Chocolates right here in my corner studio under the shadow of Kyle Field.
