Think about this: Adam had absolutely no worries until he failed God. Cain had it all until he failed God. All the Kings of Israel had it made until they failed God, even David, a man after God's own heart. All but a few people and animals were enjoying life until the failed God. Massive armies were defeated by small forces who did as God directed. Failing to do God's will brings about a lifetime of pain and misfortune, but failing to do what God provided for eternal bliss will bring about an eternal pain by fire.
Look at present days. Tiger Woods had the golf world on a string until he yeilded to sin's temptation. Johnny Manziel had abilities to become a great football player until he failed to live up to his potential by taking God-given ability for granted. Jim Austin was given unlimited gifts, but I know my failures came due to sin. President Donald Trump was on the road to America's recovery, but he failed due to OUR sin. Our Sin is the permanent condition that cost all those, who have gone before, to miss the mark of righteous life, eternal.
We measure our successes and happiness totally on what's in our wallet or safe. We think we are something when we are riding the wave of popularity. We grow confident when we are doing the will of the SINisterminister on this earth, but our earth time is limited and it will be so very clearly defined after death and that will not be fun at all.
In the book of Deuteronomy (a seldom read book, by the way), God is speaking:
"These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up". (Deuteronomy 6: 6-7)
There were ten of them and Jesus added the most important one. We have managed to violate, proudly, every one and we think it's alright to teach our children that they mean absolutely nothing by removing them from our own lives. We simply do not learn what is good for us and the mess we are in today is the result. We are facing the consequence of sinful life and are totally oblivious!
BUT, ever the worst man has hope in Jesus Christ. You awakened to one more chance to turn your own bad to good. Why are you waiting? You can shut off your private line to the SINisterminister by switching to the very quiet one already in your very soul.
Bad to GOOD is as easy as "I Believe"! There is a great old hymn by Robert Lowry, second verse sings, "Down in the valley with my Savior I will go, Where the storms are sweeping and the dark waters flow; With His hand to lead me I will never, never fear, Danger cannot fright me if my Lord is near. Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus! Anywhere, everywhere, I will follow on! Follow! follow! I will follow Jesus! Everywhere He leads me I will follow on!"
We are simply following the wrong leader, donchaknow. Really!
And that's what I get from My Box of Chocolates right here in my corner studio under the shadow of Kyle Field.
